WSU Defense Wins the Spring Game

Final Moments of the Spring Game

The spring game ended in wild fashion with the offense just needing a touchdown to win it, but the defense just needed one stop. This would come down to the final portion of the spring game which coaches call 'redzone lockout' a game that starts the offense at the 25 yard line trying to punch it into the endzone. Both sides of the ball having various ways to score points trying to get to the end goal of 18 points.

Redshirt freshman defensive tackle Malachi Wrice dropped back into coverage as QB Caden Pinnick stepped back into shotgun formation. Pinnick tried to line a pass right by Wrice but he was ready for hit snagged the ball jumping up with two hands, this interception sealed the spring game for the defense as he took it back all the way for a touchdown to seal the defense victorious over the offense in the 2026 spring game. Once he got to the end zone the entire defensive unit met him there to wrap up the spring game.

QB Battle in Pullman

There have been many question marks around the WSU offense and who would take the wheel in the QB position. As Kirby Moore said before there is going to be a QB battle which is likely not going to end anytime soon with the battle continuing throughout the Summer and even into the Fall before week 1 wraps around September 5th at Husky Stadium for the Apple Cup.

For the Spring Game Caden Pinnick the transfer from UC Davis who might have had the upper hand above Redshirt sophomore QB who got some playing time last year for the Cougs Julian Dugger, and Redshirt Freshman Owen Eshelman. Kirby Moore said that all three of these QB's.

Overall Analysis

A bit of a different look for the Cougs as over the past decade the Cougs have really leaned on their offense from guys like Luke Falk, Cam Ward, and Gardner Minshew. The new and improved defense has looked like a force to be reckoned with so far this spring. The defensive unit in the Spring game were making plays left and right forcing the qb's out of the pocket and collecting many sacks.
